MISSION STATEMENT:
The Mission of North Valley Occupational Center - Aviation Center is to offer educational opportunities that provide a diverse population of students with the ability to be career ready, technically skilled and educationally prepared.
Facts
North Valley Occupational Center-Aviation Center is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. It is a full-time Regional Occupational Center operated by the Los Angeles Unified School District's Division of Adult and Career Education. We provide short-term vocational, technical and health training and assistance in job placement, Vocational ESL, GED and high school diploma classes.
EXPECTED SCHOOLWIDE LEARNING RESULTS (ESLRs)
After completion of training at North Valley Occupational Center-Aviation Center, students will be:
Effective Communicators who:
- Possess the ability to understand current industry terminology.
- Demonstrate effective written, verbal and listening skills.
Literate individuals who:
- Are able to use technology to further assess information about their chosen field.
- Utilize problem solving skills in relatied fields.
Self-directed leaders who:
- Willingly continue thier education.
- Set and complete short and long term goals.
Collaborative workers who:
- Have the ability to work with a team.
- Can work with a diverse population.
ENROLLMENT REQUIREMENTS:
Any person 16 years of age or older is eligible for enrollment. Those under 18 must have administrative approval from their parent school and from NVOC-AC. Enrollment in adult education classes is voluntary. Enrollment must be confirmed by attendance at the first class meeting. Under the continuous enrollment policy, vacancies at the first class meeting will be filled immediately from the waiting list.
CAREER CENTER:
The North Valley Occupational Center Career Center provides you with all the tools you need to improve your resume. The job placement office is open 9:00am - 11:00am and Monday and Friday 1:45pm - 2:30pm. We would be glad to assist you, and look forward to your visit. You can reach us at Extension 331.
CONTINUOUS ENROLLMENT:
Students may enroll in open-entry/open-exit classes at any time during the school year if space is available. Registration is available on a "first-come" basis. Waiting list cards are valid for the current class term only. In high demand classes multiple registrations by an individual student are not allowed.
NVOC registration office hours are: Monday-Thursday 7:30am to 8:00pm; Friday 8:00am to 4:00pm and on Saturday 7:30am to 2:00pm.
HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS:
High school students who register with a completed concurrent enrollment waiver and the approval of the parent school may receive vocational training and/or academic credit at NVOC-AC.
Senior high school students must obtain approval from the senior high school counselor or administrative designee before enrolling in any adult school course. The following is the Concurrent Waiver for High School Students:
VETERANS:
Contents of this schedule are true and correct in accordance with all known applicable and current Veterans Administration regulations. Veterans should contact Elizabeth Penuela, Certifying Officer, (818) 365-9645 Extension 303.
CIVIL RIGHTS:
All educational opportunities are offered without regard to age, race, color, national origin, sex or handicap.
CANCELLATION OF CLASSES:
Administration reserves the right to cancel classes due to low enrollment or if the average daily attendance falls below the prescribed number of students.
CBET CHILD CARE:
Students attending North Valley Occupational Center may use NVOC-AC's child care services. The children must be toilet trained and be between 3 to 5 years old.
ASSESSMENT CENTER:
The NVOC-AC Assessment Center is located in Room 11. It is open for academic testing Monday - Friday at 8:00am and Tuesdays at 6:00pm.
For ESL testing we are open Monday - Friday 9:30am and Thursdays at 6:00pm.
